Services

Welfare rights: Our Welfare Rights Officer and his colleagues assist clients who require help with Welfare benefits, form filling, housing difficulties. Home visits can be arranged if necessary. The Welfare Rights team attend regular training sessions organised by the Devon Welfare Rights Unit.

Advocacy: The Advocacy service will assist clients to appeal against DSS/Statutory Authority decisions and will accompany clients to Tribunal hearings or Case Conferences. Home visits can be arranged if difficulty is experienced getting to the office.
 

Computer Project: Computers can open a whole new world for everyone. Affordable I.T. training is now available in our computer suite. With grant assistance from the Community Fund we can offer many and varied sessions at a nominal cost of £2.50 per hour. Tuition is given on a one to one basis and tailored to individual needs. Specialist hardware and software is also available, including Big Keys Keyboards, Intellikeys - this is an ideal way to give physical, visual and cognitive access for people with a wide range of disabilities.

Counselling Service:

The counselling service offers free and confidential counselling for Disabled People and Carers in the South Devon area. Our team of counsellors provide a flexible service that is tailored to individual needs. Sessions are usually 50 minutes long and there is no set limit to the number of sessions offered as a professional organisation, we are members of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapist, B.A.C.P. and as such adhere to their practice guidelines.

Meeting Room: The meeting room is available for hire to groups, a nominal charge of £2.50 per hour. It is also provides confidential interviewing facility for our clients.

The following services are offered by other organisations in conjunction with the Coalition.

Direct Payments: This new service will enable clients to purchase their own care needs. This is run in partnership with Social Services.

Web Access Point: Torbay Council is running a scheme to allow web access.

The following services are offered by the Coalition on behalf of the community.

Representation: In partnership with our member groups, the Coalition meets with statutory authorities as a voice for disabled people. We also raise awareness concerning disability and ask if you have issues which you would like to discuss please contact us on (01803) 215871.


Campaigning: Under the terms of our Constitution we are not able to Campaign with a big "C", however we can do this with a small "c". Although we are non-denominational and a non-political organisation we can join with national bodies, e.g. RADAR, BCODP, on a range of issues of national significance to disabled people.
